A friend of mine posed a question recently about what I thought about the riots that erupted in the United Kingdom. Since he lives there he is the man on the ground to lament about the emergence of an underclass; a rowdy undisciplined, under educated youth mainly nurtured on the public dole, bred and grown on class envy and waging class warfare.
In brief the social ills of Western society can be placed on Socialism of the heavy type or light type.
There may have been a time in the evolution of modern civilization where a need for that philosophy and implementation may have existed, but it is no longer needed today and have been detrimental to modern societies. Whatever you are observing is the result of bleeding heart liberalism and its older sibling “Socialism.
He and I have lived under one kind of Socialism in Burma and likewise are living under another kind of Socialism in two different counties and continents today. I won’t elaborate too much since this blog is NOT designed for a thorough evaluation of the disease. We need a vis a vis discussion to justify the topic.
But thankfully in USA we started later than in Europe and therefore we can still partake of the American Dream which is slowly being destroyed by progressive-liberal-socialists (PLS) since the early part of the 20th century. The welfare state came into full force with LBJ which destroyed the American family structure by subsidizing bad behavior and suppressing good behavior–especially in the black population and the very poor. Barack Obama may very well put the finishing touches to a nanny state that most Western European counties have and which successive Socialist Labor governments had perfected since the end of World War II.
We pay people to bear more children especially when they cannot name fathers and that almost totally destroyed the black family unit. We pay people NOT to work and therefore we got more of them on the dole. We punish parents and teachers from maintaining discipline and that is what we got. I am only scratching the surface with what I am saying.
However we part ways from the European model because the American dream is still alive and well across all social strata, even amongst the responsible and working poor; which is the reason the PLS are baffled why they are not as successful in conversion of all the people, though they have had considerable success.

It is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position” said Historian James Truslow Adams who popularized the phrase “American Dream” in his 1931 book Epic of America:
But the most essential ingredient of them all is “Freedom” that was the ideal of the founding of this nation and remains so today. The emergence of the Tea Party is proof that the flame still burns within the hearts of many freedom loving individuals and as long as that remains unextinguished the American Dream shall live on.
That is the difference between here and over there, be that in Europe or Asia or Africa, for that matter. I and my spouse (we are both immigrants, I from Asia and she from Europe) have found that Americans do have a different spirit and one has to be completely idiotic not to notice that. That is the American exceptionalism that we have in this nation and which Barack Obama has failed to see or acknowledge and it is up to us, the immigrants to point it out to him and those American-born progressive-liberal-socialists.
